The 11th FLORetina-ICOOR Congress took place from November 30th to December 3rd at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Rome, and we could not be prouder of what this meeting has become over time. Our history began in 2015 in Florence as an event intended to exchange opinions among retina experts, but also as a change for conviviality, collaboration and networking. From 2020, it became a joint meeting with ICOOR (International Congress on OCT and OCT angiography in Rome), whose founder, Professor Lumbroso, sadly passed away this year.
Since our beginnings, FLORetina has progressively acquired international resonance, reaching colleagues from all over the world. Each year we gather for 4 days for an intense journey into the past, present and future of surgical and medical retina. This year, 3200 participants from 50 countries joined the meeting.
Amazing live surgery sessions held by some of the most skilled and famous surgeons from all over the world made it an incredible opportunity to capture tips and tricks as well as learn the latest advancements in vitreoretinal surgery. The congress also featured a great variety of original instructional courses, commercial stands displaying the latest technologies and high-quality practical wet labs for members in training.
Last but not least, we try each year to give a taste of the beauty and vibrancy of Italy and its arts, organizing for our participants original dining events in the wonderful setting of Rome and other historical cities in Italy during the Christmas season. This year a private concert in the Eliseo Theatre delighted our guests with Ennio Morricone’s music performed by some of the best Italian musicians. The concert was held in memory of Professor Bruno Lumbroso and Dr. Kirk Packo, to which a lecture and an annual prize were also dedicated.
