The International Retinal Imaging Society (IntRIS) recently hosted its 10th Annual Pacific Retina Club and International Retinal Imaging Symposium in Los Angeles, California, from May 30 to June 1, 2024. Founded in 2013, the Pacific Retina Club (PRC), conceived by Drs. H. Richard McDonald, SriniVas R. Sadda, and David Sarraf, is renowned for its highly engaging discussions on unique and puzzling cases that often stump even the most experienced retina specialists. This year’s event assembled a global community of experts to explore advances in the management of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, retinal vein occlusion, uveitis, and ocular tumors, alongside the latest surgical techniques and instrumentation to optimize outcomes for various retinal conditions.

Keynote speakers included Mark W. Johnson, MD, from the University of Michigan, who delivered the Alexander R. Irvine Lecture titled “Macular Musings,” and James G. Fujimoto, PhD, from MIT, who presented the 5th Annual Lawrence A. Yannuzzi Award Lecture entitled “Optical Coherence Tomography – History, Evolution and Future Prospects.”

This three-day symposium featured a comprehensive agenda of case presentations by emerging retina specialists and updates on the latest research and technological advancements in the field. Topics covered included the integration of AI in retinal diagnostics and management, the use of advanced imaging technologies like OCT angiography, and workshops designed to enhance surgical techniques.

This year’s event, organized by Drs. David Sarraf, Amani A. Fawzi, K. Bailey Freund, H. Richard McDonald, and SriniVas R. Sadda, promoted a collaborative atmosphere focusing on both educational and practical aspects of retinal health.
